Cloud Based Bookkeeping – the Future
Burton Accountancy Services Limited is a certified partner of Xero, a company that provides a cloud based accounting system to businesses in over 50 countries.
Xero is software as a service (SAAS) delivered through a standard web browser from Xero's Tier 1 hosting environment. You can access the software from anywhere that you have internet access, including iPhone, Blackberry or Windows Mobile device. There are no limits, and no additional costs on the number of users that a client can have, which removes one of the problems of traditional computer based packages, such as Sage.
If you have problems, or are unsure as to how to treat a transaction, you can invite your accountant to have access to your accounts. You can send a message to them with a query from within the software, and they can assist you, without the need for you to take a backup and send this to them.
One of the key features of Xero is the direct bank data feeds. At present, these are available to customers of most of the major UK banks and financial institutions. This makes reconciling the bank, a job that can now be done in seconds rather than minutes, or even hours. You can also add your PayPal accounts and set up automatic PayPal feeds in Xero (this requires a Business or Premier account with Paypal).
We have started to use Xero for our own business accounting function and cannot believe how easy the system is to use. It also means that all accounting transactions can be dealt with in the office but I can then spend time in the evening, away from all of the normal office distractions, reviewing the company's financial situation. It is ideal for the smaller business where the owner is away from the office for days at a time.
David Wagstaff is a Xero Certified Advisor, having had to undergo training direct from Xero and pass an exam at the end of it.
